A stormwater lift station that is connected with a detention basin for instance, should work within the overall drainage plan. The runoff is absorbed by the detention basin, where the temporary storage handles the immediate volume, while the pumping system transports the water collected to an authorized discharge point.

The development required a pumping station for emptying a detention facility into the public stormwater drainage system. The station needed to be planned as a part of the drainage infrastructure designed for the development, rather than as a separate piece equipment.

“Package” Doesn’t have to Mean Off-the-Shelf

A common misconception is that a package pumping system is simply a predetermined collection of components.

In the case of engineering infrastructure packaging could mean that the entire system of components are coordinated into one system. The valves and pumps can be selected according to their duty requirements.

This strategy is especially useful in situations where the new system has to be linked with an existing infrastructure. In industrial plants and municipal structures, there’s not unlimited space available or a perfect environment to install. It may be necessary to adapt equipment around existing structures, pipes as well as electrical systems and schedules.

In particular, undersizing can be costly as facilities grow.
